KELȽOLEMEĆEN (Killer Whale) tail slapping in Tumbo Channel. Captured by thermal imaging camera on November 30, 2024.

Our relatives of the deep are speaking, listen to them as they travel our traditional waters. We are pleased to announce the first underwater audio clips from our TIU¸IL¸ES (Tumbo Channel) hydrophone now available on our youtube page.

Listen to KELȽOLEMEĆEN in their natural environment in TIU¸IL¸ES and XELEXÁṮEM (Rum Island). These hydrophone recordings provide further insight into the challenges Southern Resident KELȽOLEMEĆEN face, such as unnatural commercial vessel acoustic pollution, and help us to advocate for their protection. Acoustic pollution affects killer whales’ ability to communicate with their families and forage effectively and efficiently.
